THE PRINCES IN THE TOWER
A Signaling Game of Reputation and Denigration

Abstract:

In this paper, we use game theory to analyze the most celebrated mystery in English history: the fate of the princes in the Tower. We do not aim at the impossible, to provide an explanation to the disappearance of Edward IV's sons while under their uncle Richard's protection and in his power. Our intention is to clarify the difficult patterns of incomplete information, beliefs and knowledge, which influenced both strategic move and lack of action in the games of reputation and denigration which marked the road to Bosworth Field.
